Dr. Aisling Byrne, an architectural historian who reads buildings the way others read faces, comes to catalogue the ruin of a four-hundred-year-old castle on the west coast of Ireland. She finds it has been waiting for someone who can hear what its walls have held. The castle does not need saving. It needs a witness.
